MENA PSC Institute for Politics, Security, Climate
Impartial, rigorous research and strategic analysis on political, security, environmental and economic risk across the Middle East and North Africa.
Research Divisions
Three lenses on one region
Each division reads the region through its own evidence. Open one to see what it is watching now.
Division boundary rule
To avoid the same event being coded twice, Security and Military Analysis holds sole ownership of discrete political-violence and demonstration event coding across MENA PSC, under a single unified taxonomy. Political and Economic Analysis builds structural and qualitative analysis on top of that shared layer; Climate and Environmental Risks does the same for climate-linked events under its own codebook. These three connect through a shared case link.

About MENA PSC
A regional evidence base, built to regional standards
An independent, non-profit research institute covering the Middle East and North Africa: commissioned research for institutions, publications open to anyone, and training for people who need to read risk for themselves.
What We Do
Research on commission
An institution brings us a question, a country and a deadline. We answer it from evidence, at the length the question deserves: a focused brief, a policy analysis, a strategic assessment, or a full country study.
Read the drivers together
Three divisions cover political and economic, security and military, and climate and environmental risk. A question that crosses them is answered across them, because budget decisions, armed actors and water stress are rarely separate problems here.
Publish openly
Analysis, research briefs and recorded conversations, published for anyone to read rather than held back for clients. The methodology and the source-grading standard behind them are published in full, so the work can be judged on its method.
Train and commission researchers
Short courses in each division, taught live online with a certificate on completion. Paid research work for academics and analysts based across the region, with every application read personally.
Who We Are
MENA PSC Institute is an independent research institute. Each division is led by a professor working with a team of expert researchers, and the work is produced with researchers based across the Middle East and North Africa. Research is produced in English or Arabic, whichever you need, and our researchers work in both, so sources are read in the language they were written in rather than in translation.
Dr Amr Zaki
Founder and Director
A political scientist and expert in strategic affairs, specialising in international relations and in environmental risk and working from a background in security analysis. His regional specialisation is the Middle East and North Africa.
How We Are Funded
MENA PSC is funded by the work it does: commissioned research and course fees. It accepts no party or campaign funding. A client chooses the question, the country and the deadline. A client does not choose the answer, and where the evidence points somewhere a client would rather it did not, we report where the evidence points and say so before accepting the work.
Where We Are
MENA PSC is registered in the United States, with its head office in Brooklyn, New York. The research itself is produced remotely: researchers work from where the research is, across the Middle East and North Africa, and are briefed, reviewed and paid remotely.
How We Check What We Publish
Every claim carries a graded source, and the confidence language is the same in everything we issue. The method is set out in full on the methodology page rather than summarized here.
Methodology
How we check what we publish
Our research is impartial and rigorous: nobody who pays us decides what we conclude. Here is how we work, in plain terms.
Research Ethics & Independence
Independence is a design constraint, not a slogan
